β physically indistinguishable from humans β certain drugs don't work on them ( e.g. effects of lsd, drugs to alter biology ) β extended lifespan ( sometimes said to be eternal ) β no words for loss or endings in their language
β lanthanites process loss and death very differently to humans. because of their extended lifespan, death via old age isn't a thing, and it's an ending they learned of through living with humans and other shorter-lived species. lanthanites have a fantastic memory, carrying the people they knew in memories with them, remembering them for countless generations. because of how they still remember people, it becomes harder to process death when you are unending -- you look to still talk to them, or think of them, even centuries later. trauma from death ends up carried, having to be reminded continuously that the person you knew or loved is no longer with you. grief holds, trauma holds, felt even centuries later.
